HCI’s current intern from ProWorld Ghana, Liza Bayless, is a graduate of St. Andrew’s School in Middletown, Delaware in the U.S., and made the connection with Claudius upon arrival that an HCI basketball player, Ben Bentil, is currently attending the school. In order to get the store project up and running, HCI decided to host a fundraiser at St. Andrew’s. Through the commitment and hard work of two fantastic students at the school, Molly Belk and Cesca Fleischer, the fundraiser happened on April 20th. The two girls organized and ran a raffle at the high school where they sold tickets to be picked at random for items such as baked goods and small trips donated by teachers, and a digital camera. The raffle was a huge success, combining a night of fun and prizes with raising money for a great cause. Added to donations by parents of students at St. Andrew’s, the school was able to raise over 1,000 USD for HCI’s store project. HCI is very thankful to the St. Andrew’s community for contributing to our project, and is very excited to begin the training of Amanful mothers in batik fabric dying. Keep checking our newsletters, website, Facebook, and Twitter pages to stay informed about the project’s progress.
